Apple: No plans of bringing Siri to older devices yet

Developers may have proven to everyone that older iOS devices can run Siri but Apple still doesn’t feel the same way and in an email sent to them by a user they have said it quite clearly that they currently have no plans of bringing Siri to older iOS devices. Michael Steeber wrote to Apple asking if devices other than iPhone 4S will be given Siri feature or not.

Micheal Steeber asked in an email

Bug Title: Special Siri Build of iOS

iPhone 4 Users and iPod touch 4th generation users pay a fee of 19.99 to upgrade to a ‘special’ build of iOS 5.0.1 with Siri Final in it, (To avoid hackers hacking Siri onto non 4S devices illegally) **Many iPhone 4 Users and iPod touch 4th generation Users will pay for this special iOS build (5.0.1) which will enable Siri for a fee of $19.99 US dollars

Apple’s response is as following

Engineering has provided the following feedback regarding this issue:
Siri only works on iPhone 4S and we currently have no plans to support older devices.

It is interesting that Apple in this email has said that they have ‘currently’ no plans of bringing Siri to older devices. That means they have not ruled out the possibility of bringing Siri feature to older devices in the coming months.

Siri is one of the top reasons users have been buying iPhone 4S and it is quite reasonable that Apple does not want to damage sales of its newest iPhone by giving its selling point feature to older devices.
