by Zaib Ali on February 18, 2012

Apple has started the countdown to mark 25 billionth app download on its website. It has set up a promotional page on its official site that says the person who will download the 25 billionth app from the App Store will win a $10,000 App Store gift card.

As of today, nearly 25 billion apps have been downloaded worldwide. Which is almost as amazing as the apps themselves. So we want to say thanks. Download the 25 billionth app, and you could win a US$10,000 App Store Gift Card.* Just visit the App Store and download your best app yet.

The App Store launched on July 10, 2008 and provides a simple and easy way to download applications to all iOS users. App Store has seen a massive growth in the past year, just for the sake of comparison, in January 2011 Apple announced 10 billion downloads (which was after 2.5. years of its launch). Now just after a year 15 billion more apps have been downloaded.

Fun fact:

Based on December 19, 2011 morning share price, the App Store alone is probably worth about $7.08 billion and surpassed a whole Research In Motion producer of BlackBerry with worth roughly $7.04 billion. (via Wikipedia)
